The Veeh-Harfe – how it starts
The idea is obvious, but the Veeh harp has nothing to do with a fairy tale. The story of the Veeh harp begins in real life.
Farmer Hermann Veeh was looking for a musical instrument for his son Andreas, who was born with Down syndrome. Andreas had a love of music from birth, but learning to play a musical instrument seemed unattainable. Memories of old stringed instruments with music notation provided the decisive impetus. The basic principle of these instruments was further developed. Inspired by his son’s abilities, Hermann Veeh designed a completely new musical instrument – extremely easy to handle, attractive in design, and enchanting in sound.
A wonderful world opened up for Andreas and many other people. The dream of people with different talents and abilities making music together became reality.
The Veeh harp is a stringed instrument that can be played without the need to know how to read music. A simple and clear musical notation was developed specifically for the instrument – reduced to the essentials. Music stencils, which are inserted between the strings and the resonator, enable sight-reading – making the notes tangible.
For children, the Veeh harp is their first, formative introduction to music. For adults, playing the harp often fulfills a deep longing for music. The Veeh harp provides new impetus in music education and geragogy, in kindergartens and schools, complements therapy in hospitals, and enriches everyday life in senior living facilities.
